Charles Moore, long term Department of Correction employee, and former Director of the Correctional Training Institute passed away at his home. He was 78 years of age. On Wednesday, March 18, the viewing will be held at Essling Funeral Home in LaPorte from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the Queen of All Saints church in Michigan City.
“Charley” served in a number of capacities at the Indiana State Prison and the Indiana Reformatory before moving to Westville to take the helm of the training academy. He was a gracious gentleman with a kind heart and a refreshing sense of humor. He was a talented photographer, an outstanding wood worker with a preference for building replicas of famous ships, and a gardener. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Although Charley’s leadership was from a different era in Indiana Department of Correction, he certainly can be credited with contributing to the foundation our agency rests upon today.
