Indiana's unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percent to 10.1 percent in September, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development said today.
It's the sixth straight month the state has been in double digits.
Total private-sector employment declined in September, a drop of 7,500 jobs. Through the year, the state added 43,100 private-sector jobs, an increase of 1.9 percent.
"Any drop in the unemployment rate is welcome news," said Mark W. Everson, commissioner of the state agency. "On a year-to-date basis, Indiana continues to be a leader in private sector job growth."
In August, the rate was 10.2 percent, the same rate reported in July.
But at that time, Everson had said at that Indiana was adding private sector jobs three-and-a-half times faster than the U.S. as a whole and that officials expected to see a drop in the unemployment rate in the coming months.
