Federal grants Helping young offenders get back in communities The Indiana Department of Correction has received two grants from the U.S. Department of Justice to help youthful offenders return to their communities, according to a news release from the department.
A $732,389 grant will support a program to help recently released juveniles avoid committing new crimes. Youths in the program will report to the AIM Re-entry Academy for the first month after release. They'll learn life and job skills, be matched with mentors, receive help with education and employment, and be connected with community resources.
A planning grant of $43,400 will establish a statewide team to work with community advisory boards for various juvenile facilities, increase families' involvement in the treatment of youths with mental health and substance abuse disorders, and train staff members to work with those youths.
