MUNCIE -- Ivy Tech Community College has signed a $1.9 million, two-year contract to provide education at the maximum-security Pendleton Correctional Facility and the nearby minimum-security Correctional Industrial Complex.
While the East Central Region of Ivy Tech has added 11 staff for the project, implementation is being delayed because the maximum-security facility has been under an extreme lockdown for the past month, and is likely to remain under lockdown for another month. The college will provide adult basic education necessary for offenders to earn their general equivalency diploma (high school degree) as well as vocational programs, initially in horticulture, business technology and building maintenance technology.
