MCF helps DEA make an arrest in a 2007 murder
Bunker Hill, IN (Sept. 13, 2010) – Miami Correctional Facility staff are responsible for assisting Ohio law enforcement officers including those with the Drug Enforcement Administration in the arrest of a man suspected of killing a Richmond, Ohio, man in 2007.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office in Ohio, has charged Anthony Croom, 41, with aggravated murder with prior calculation and design. Croom was arrested at MCF upon his release from the Indiana Department of Correction facility where he was serving time for unlawful firearm possession by a serious felon.
Croom is accused of being the gunman in the 2007 shooting death of Richmond, Ohio’s Anthony Hurd, a federal drug informant. Hurd was shot eight times in an ambush attack on Aug. 2, 2007, at a Sunoco station along Interstate 70 near Englewood, Ohio. He died Aug. 3 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
MCF Internal Affairs staff have been working with the DEA since September 2009 monitoring and forwarding to them Croom’s mail, the J-pay system and telephone calls. Pendleton Correctional Facility Internal Affairs staff also assisted in the investigation.
Croom is being held in the Montgomery County Jail in Dayton, Ohio, on a $1 million bond. He is also charged with felony assault, and illegal possession of a weapon.
