Visitor at Indiana State Prison smuggled heroin and Ecstasy to inmate A visitor to the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City was arrested Sunday on a charge of trafficking of a controlled substance to an offender, the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) said on Monday. Jennifer Walker, 26, of Marion, Ind., was arrested on that charge and transported to LaPorte County Jail, DOC said. Trafficking of a controlled substance to an offender is a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years. According to DOC, at 10:50 p.m. offender Robert Elliott was searched by prison staff following a visit from Walker and a package was found on his person containing substances which field-tested positive for heroin, marijuana, Ecstasy, and tobacco. Elliott is serving a sentence of 300 years after being convicted in Marion County on 25 different charges, including burglary, rape, criminal deviate conduct, robbery, attempted rape, theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal confinement. Elliott entered DOC in August 1997 and arrived at the Indiana State Prison on March 2, 2010. His earliest possible release date is June 27, 2147. Superintendent William Wilson commended staff “for their excellent security work which resulted in the identification and confiscation of this contraband,” as did DOC Commissioner Edwin Buss.
