A Kokomo woman was arrested Sunday on a charge of trafficking of a controlled substance with an offender, after the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) said that she smuggled a quantity of marijuana to an inmate of the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. Amber Ellington, 32, was transported to the LaPorte County Jail on the charge, a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years. According to DOC, at 2 p.m. correctional officers searched inmate Jeremiah Beverly following a visit from Ellington and found contraband in his possession: a package containing field-tested marijuana and unidentified powder, capsules, and caplets. Beverly was sentenced to 35 years through Marion County for murder, two firearm charges, and a consecutive charge of theft, DOC said. Superintendent William Wilson praised his staff for its “excellent security work.” chestertontribune.com/PoliceFireEmergency/824103%20indiana_state_prison_visitor_cha.htm
