Prison Worker Accused Of Drug Trafficking Police: Food Service Worker Was Bringing In Pot MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. -- A contracted food service worker at the Miami Correctional Facility is accused of trying to deliver drugs to an inmate. During a joint investigation by the Indiana Department of Correction and state police, it was discovered that Michael J. Newman, 22, of Peru, would bring marijuana to an inmate on Saturday, said Sgt. Tony Slocum. Troopers pulled over Newman that morning on his way to the prison and found about a half pound of suspected marijuana, Slocum said. Newman was arrested and preliminarily charged with two counts of trafficking with an inmate, conspiracy to traffic with an inmate and possession of marijuana over 30 grams, all felonies. Newman had bonded out of the Miami County Jail Monday. Investigators said more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
