Promoting Positive Corrections Culture Training
Executive Directive: # 09-69 introduces a new initiative within the Department of Correction, the Promoting Positive Corrections Culture program. This new initiative is intended to assist the Department to have a better cultural environment for staff to work in and offenders to live in. By creating this Positive Corrections Culture, it is anticipated that staff and offender morale will increase and there may be less tension within the facilities between staff and offenders.
By April 1, 2010 our facility will have at a minimum 25% of its staff trained in PPCC to include contractual staff. Annually, 10% of staff will attend PPCC training until all staff has completed the course.
This training is mandatory. Supervisors will make the necessary schedule adjustments to ensure not only that staff attend their scheduled training dates, but also ensure that facility PPCC trainers be allowed to assist in completing this task.
Once the dates are finalized, a scheduled will be forwarded to the appropriate supervisors to ensure that staff is scheduled accordingly.

The reason I want to be a part of this team is because I think that I can help bridge the gap between the supervisors and the officer because in the past I have had a lot of new officers approach me about issues that they have had with other supervisors. First I would always let them share their concerns with me. Then I would always give them positive advice to help them with their situations. I believe I could be a voice for both the supervisors and the employees to help promote a more positive culture in the Dept Of Corrections.
