Illinois Prison May House Guantanamo Bay Detainees

Colorado, Montana, Michigan and possibly other states are also making a pitch for the prison.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says it's a great opportunity to bring in good paying jobs. Quinn says Illinois has a good location: a super maximum prison nearly vacant that's state of the art. It's located in the small northwestern Illinois town of Thomson. But while Quinn says he believes Illinois has a good chance, the race for the prison is not over.
QUINN: We're just being reviewed by the federal government. This is not a done deal. It's important though that we put our best foot forward.
Quinn says President Barack Obama's familiarity with the prison should give it a leg up as it competes against other locations. A team of federal inspectors toured the Thomson prison Monday. It's uncertain when a final decision will be made.
If approved, the federal government would purchase the facility from the state. At least some of the inmates would include those now held at Guantanamo Bay.
Harley Lappin is the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He says moving detainees to Illinois is just one of several options being considered.
