Branchville, Indiana (October 22, 2009) – When Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels toured the southern part of Indiana on October 20, he stopped by the Branchville Correctional Facility. As the first sitting governor to visit the facility, Governor Daniels made the most of his time there. He spoke to all of the facility’s employees during their staff assembly and thanked them for their hard work in the challenging field of corrections. Governor Daniels then turned his attention to Mike Hubert, a facility maintenance worker who suffered injuries when three offenders escaped the facility earlier this year. Daniels gave Hubert the Governor’s Heroism Award for the bravery he showed during the difficult ordeal and thanked him for his dedication to the State of Indiana. Buss also spoke at the assembly and expressed his appreciation. “Every day, correctional workers work in a very difficult environment in order to keep Hoosiers safe,” Commissioner Buss commented. “Mike Hubert showed incredible heroism earlier this year, and we are so glad he is still part of the team.”
