MEDIA RELEASE
PENDLETON CORRECTIONAL FACILITY FEATURED
IN DISCOVERY CHANNEL DOCUMENTARY
Pendleton, Indiana- (March 3, 2009) - Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner Edwin
G. Buss announces that a documentary filmed at the Pendleton Correctional Facility will be aired
on the Discovery Channel on March 9th at 9:00 pm Eastern Time. The documentary, entitled
“Hard Time,” represents the culmination of a month of filming conducted at the facility in
September 2008 by Towers Productions, Inc. out of Chicago. “Hard Time” features
Superintendent Brett Mize and his staff amid the daily routine of managing over 1900 offenders
at the maximum security facility.
According to the Discovery Channel, “For most offenders at the Pendleton Correctional Facility
in Indiana, it is the beginning of a lifetime of incarceration. Fortunately, for society, the facility
was designed exactly for those who end up here: the state's most violent criminals.
Commissioner Buss said, “I believe the documentary does an outstanding job in capturing the
essence of life in a maximum security prison.”
“This will provide a rare opportunity for the public to examine the formidable challenges
correctional staff face on a daily basis to effectively manage the facility and to protect the
public,” added Superintendent Mize.
