New Faces in Leadership in the Indiana Department of Correction
Indianapolis, Indiana (August 26, 2009) – Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) Commissioner Edwin G. Buss assumed command of the agency in August 2008, excited about the opportunities ahead and dedicated to recognizing the positive contributions of IDOC staff. During the past year, Commissioner Buss has spearheaded many new initiatives and innovative programs for the Department, but of all of his accomplishments, the introduction of new faces into leadership positions promises to be a lasting and valuable achievement. The faces below may be new to leadership positions; however, they all have years of valuable correctional and management experience that makes them eminently qualified to carry out their newly assigned duties. Through such training and staff development programs like the Emerging and Experienced Leadership (EEL) program, many up-and-coming IDOC staff have seen their careers advance. Not only have new members been added to the Agency’s Executive Staff, new facility Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Parole District Supervisors, and Division Directors have been chosen. Here are the new IDOC leaders promoted since August 2008:
Jim Basinger – Assistant Superintendent, Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
Beckie Bennett – Superintendent, Reception Diagnostic Center
Donna Carneygee – Superintendent, Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility
Amanda Copeland – Executive Director, Research and Technology
Linda Commons – Superintendent,
Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility
Richard Curry –
Executive Director,
Staff Development
Emergency Operations
Mike Dempsey – Executive Director, Division of Youth Services
Esa Ehmen-Krause – Superintendent, South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility
2
Mia Kelsaw – Supervisor, Fort Wayne Parole District #2
Latoya Lane – Interim Superintendent, Plainfield Re-entry Educational Facility
Mark Levenhagen – Superintendent, Indiana State Prison
Bryan Pearson – Superintendent, Edinburgh Correctional Facility
Angela Sutton – Designated Superintendent, Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility
LaShelle Turner – Assistant Superintendent,
Indiana Women’s Prison
“This year has been challenging, but with all of the invaluable leaders in place to steer the agency, we are moving forward and ready to confront future challenges,” said Commissioner Buss. “The teamwork and dedication of all staff helps the IDOC be the best it can be.”
