Bloomington woman charged with trafficking at Putnamville

GREENCASTLE -- A Bloomington woman remained in the Putnam County Jail Friday after her recent arrest in connection with a trafficking incident at the Putnamville Correctional Facility.
Alexis K. Thorpe, 27, is charged with Class C felony trafficking with an inmate and Class D felony possession of cocaine. If convicted of both charges, she could face up to 11 years in prison.
According to court documents, Thorpe arrived at the Putnamville Correctional Facility on May 9 to visit her fiance, Damieon Latchman, 32, who was serving a 14 1/2-year sentence for dealing in cocaine and resisting law enforcement charges out of Monroe County.
After watching a videotape of Thorpe and Latchman's visit, Putnamville Correctional Facility Internal Affairs Officer David Wire conducted an interview with Latchman, who admitted that Thorpe had passed him marijuana and cocaine during their visit.
Initially, the court found insufficient probable cause to issue a warrant for Thorpe's arrest, but after further investigation, the warrant was issued on July 8.
A month later, Thorpe was apprehended. She pled not guilty to both charges, and Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley set her bond at $20,000 with 10 percent allowed.
Public defender James Recker was assigned to represent Thorpe, who is set to be back in court for a pretrial conference on Oct. 1.
