Inmate surrenders after walking away from prison
Indiana prison officials say an inmate surrendered to authorities more than a day after he walked away from a southwestern Indiana prison.
Twenty-two-year-old Stefon Hutcherson surrendered to police shortly before midnight Thursday at the home of relative in the Indianapolis area. He had walked away from Wabash Valley Correctional Facility about 30 miles south of Terre Haute on Wednesday morning.
Prison spokesman Rich Larsen says Hutcherson told authorities he walked the entire distance to Indianapolis, but had food and water with him.
Hutcherson told investigators he wanted to see his son and girlfriend in Ohio.
He had been set to be released in October after serving 10 months for two forgery convictions. Hutcherson now faces a felony escape charge that could add eight years to his sentence.
