— A Vanderburgh County woman faces criminal charges after allegedly trafficking tobacco to an offender Friday in a Wabash Valley Correctional Facility visiting room. Kendra Leathers, 30, of Evansville was not aware that Wabash Valley Internal Affairs Investigators have been monitoring the activities of offender Keith Scruggs, 33, the offender she came to see. Authorities had increased surveillance of Scruggs, believing he has been involved in trafficking activities during visits. Leathers allegedly passed more than 46 grams of tobacco to Scruggs before monitoring custody staff intervened. Scruggs is serving a 124-year sentence for two Marion County murder convictions and for carrying a handgun without a license. His earliest release date is May of 2057. He faces facility conduct rule violations and criminal charges. Leathers faces a preliminary charge of trafficking with an inmate, a class-A misdemeanor. Indiana State Police, assisting in the investigation, transported Leathers to the Sullivan County Jail, where she was being held under $3,000 bail.
