Indy man held in trafficking to inmates PLAINFIELD — An Indianapolis man was held in the Hendricks County Jail today on charges that he was attempting to toss cell phones and tobacco over the fence to inmates of a state prison in Plainfield. Ryan C. Blankenship, 27, was arrested late Sunday when he was seen walking near the perimeter fence of the Plainfield Correctional Facility. State correctional officers alerted the Plainfield police, who are headquartered next to the state prison. Police stopped Blankenship, who said he was planning to throw a bag with six cell phones and chargers and packages of loose tobacco over the fence. Possession of both items by inmates is prohibited. Investigators were trying to determine the intended recipient of the contraband inside the prison, according to a news release from the Department of Correction. Blankenship was in the county jail in Danville Monday, charged with attempting to traffic with an inmate, with a potential sentence of up to a year in prison. www.indystar.com/article/20090713/NEWS02/90713054
