Branchville employee cited for excellence in counseling
BRANCHVILLE - Karen Ann Smith, a substance-abuse counselor family community entry specialist for Branchville Correctional Facility's substance-abuse re-entry department, was recently featured in Cambridge Publishing's "Top 101 Industry Experts" book.
Selected from more than 250,000 executives, professionals and entrepreneurs, these exemplary leaders stay at the top of their fields by possessing unique experience and wisdom, all the while exhibiting innovation in their work, according to program officials.
Smith's dedication to providing addiction counseling grew out of a personal experience with a family member who became addicted to drugs and alcohol. Eighteen years later, Smith is a certified Level 2 alcohol and drug-abuse counselor and is considered by her peers to be a highly proficient family, individual and group counselor of adult male offenders. Before joining Branchville Correctional Facility, Smith worked as a casework manager for the Miami Correctional Facility, as a substance-abuse counselor for the North Central Juvenile Correctional Facility and as a substance-abuse counselor for Branchville Correctional Facility during an earlier stint from 1991-98.
