Indianapolis woman sentenced for trafficking Friday, June 12, 2009 By JAMIE BARRAND, Editor
An Indianapolis woman was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of two felonies related to trafficking with an inmate at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley sentenced Tonya Denise Corley Robinson, 35, to seven years at the Indiana Department of Correction with three years executed and four years suspended for Class C felony trafficking with an inmate and to three years, all executed, at the DOC for Class D felony possession of marijuana.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Under the terms of a plea agreement, several charges against Robinson -- including Class B felony dealing in cocaine, Class D felonies dealing in marijuana and possession of cocaine and Class A misdemeanor trafficking with an inmate were dropped.
Robinson was arrested Dec. 30 after trying to pass drugs and other contraband to a Putnamville inmate during a visit. Before accepting the final plea agreement, Robinson rejected a deal in which all the other charges would have been dropped in exchange for her pleading guilty to the Class B felony. Had she agreed to those terms, she could have received a maximum sentence of 20 years.
Robinson has been in the Putnam County Jail since her arrest. She will receive credit for 149 days served.
