Offender who left Indiana State Prison work release program extradited

MICHIGAN CITY — A prisoner who walked away from a minimum-security facility in Indiana was extradited Friday from St Joseph, Mich.
Steven Grove, 26, left the Indiana State Prison’s minimum-security facility April 9, during his work assignment, officials said. Grove was incarcerated May 4, 2008, on an attempted aggravated battery conviction, theft, and receiving stolen property.
According to a release from state officials, Grove arrived at the facility in February of this year, with a possible release date of Nov. 2.
Residents can stay informed with the Department of Corrections ALERT notification system, designed to inform residents of prison escapes, and environmental hazards. Interested residents can sign up for alerts by calling (866) 949-2537.
Officials ask interested residents provide their home or cell phone numbers, along with the nearest state facility’s ZIP code. In case of an escape, registered residents will receive automatic calls with inmate information, and environmental emergencies.
