New Unit For Mentally Ill Inmates Reported by: Patrick Fazio Tuesday, Apr 14, 2009 @04:07pm EST Please Select a Bandwidth High | Med | Low Inmates at a Valley prison have a new place to get mental health services. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle presented its newly opened Special Needs Unit on Tuesday. SNU provides holistic mental health services to special needs male offenders in maximum security. SNU offers crisis intervention and stabilization as well as illness management. Regional Mental Health Director with Correctional Medical Service Dr. Jamie Wiles-Oberholtzer says "These offenders here at the Special Needs Unit will receive individual therapy, group therapy, skills building treatments to help them learn to live their life with their mental illness in order to reintegrate back into a general population or back into the community."
