Do not fight the bureaucracy. Corrections is an organization dominated by rules and paperwork, often representing procedures and precedent before individual needs. Correctional institutions adhere to a paramilitary style management with vertical chain of command. Many employees feel comfortable in, and adapt more readily to, such an environment. Those that struggle with the constraints imposed by the bureaucracy often become exhausted or succumb to the organizational pressure to conform, thus leading to burnout.
