Anderson councilman had gun in jail cell
ANDERSON — Police say an Anderson city councilman was found with a loaded gun in his cell at the Madison County Jail after he was arrested on a drunken driving charge.
Councilman Ollie Dixon was arrested Saturday night after a breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, more than twice the state’s legal limit to drive of 0.08 percent.
Officers took the 60-year-old Dixon to the jail after patting him down. Sheriff Ron Richardson says jail guards also patted Dixon down twice but failed to find a weapon.
Richardson says an inmate alerted guards to the gun after it fell from Dixon’s pants leg.
He says gun charges may be filed against Dixon once an investigation is complete.
The Associated Press left a message with Dixon’s attorney seeking comment.
