A former prison officer who gave false testimony to a Corruption and Crime Commission private hearing into drug use by prison officers has received a suspended jail sentence. Former prison officer Paula Marie White of High Wycombe received a six month suspended sentence at Perth Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to two charges of false testimony. The magistrate said a jail sentence was the only appropriate penalty for White as she was a prison officer at the time of the offence, however, a suspended sentence was imposed as she had a six-month-old baby and family responsibilities Her de facto partner Benjamin Nicholas Jeakings, also of High Wycombe, received an eight month suspended sentence in Perth Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to three charges of giving false testimony. The magistrate said Jeakings falsely denied using cannabis and supplying it to others but as he was getting his life back together and had family responsibilities, a suspended sentence was imposed. At the hearing White denied that she knew fellow prison officer, Helen Knight, used amphetamines and that she had ever supplied Knight with illegal drugs. Earlier, Knight received an eight month sentence for giving false testimony to a private commission hearing. source: www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuId=77&ContentID=133713
