A local law enforcement officer is suspected of breaking the very laws he has sworn to uphold.
Joshua Geisler, 24, a former employee of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, stands charged with class C felony receiving stolen property.
According to the probable cause statement on file for the case, the sheriff’s department was notified on Feb. 23 that a Taser reported missing from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department had been located in Maries County. The Taser is an electroshock weapon that uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles and is worth approximately $1,400. It had been recovered from Geisler, who had quit working as a deputy in the Jail Division for Crawford County on Jan. 19.
Deputy Paul Satterfield later met with Geisler at the Owensville Police Department, where Geisler said he’d received the Taser from another former CCSD employee. Although he would not identify that person, he acknowledged that what he had done by accepting the stolen goods it could be considered a form of stealing.
At the time of the investigation, Geisler was working as a police officer with the Belle Police Department and there was a report that he gave conflicting information to some of the other officers about where he’d obtained the Taser.
A warrant was issued, and Geisler turned himself in at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and was released after posting a $2,000 cash bond.
