Ex-guard sentenced in jail sex case
A Northumberland County judge rejected a proposed plea deal for one former county prison guard on Monday, then sentenced a second guard to up to seven years in prison for having sexual contact with female inmates.
Brandon Fraim, 23, of Shamokin, had pleaded no contest to charges that he granted favors to inmates in return for sexual favors.
Fraim called his actions "immature and juvenile" when asked by Judge Charles H. Saylor if he had anything to say before sentencing.
Fraim faces nine months to seven years in prison for his role in the scandal.
On top of the prison time, Fraim was also ordered to pay a $100 fine for each of the four counts against him. The judge also ordered Fraim to write a letter of apology to each of the women he victimized.
Fraim's "disturbing behavior" violated the trust placed in him as a prison guard, Saylor said. Fraim had been employed at the prison for 18 months before his December resignation.
"No one should have to go through this kind of improper treatment," the judge said, adding that the sentence was intended to reflect the seriousness of the charge.
As a former corrections officer, Fraim will receive no special treatment or placement when serving his sentence, a state Department of Corrections spokesman said.
