Ohio prison jobs spared By wsyx6.com Published: 04/14/2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A union representing Ohio prison workers says federal stimulus dollars have averted the expected layoffs of nearly 500 guards, parole officers, chaplains and case managers.
Service Employees International Union 1199 president Becky Williams says the agreement will protect public safety in a state where prisons are filled to well over capacity. But the office of state prisons director Terry Collins says there is still no guarantee the agreement forged earlier this month will save all the threatened jobs.
