Indianapolis - A man is in custody after a robbery at a credit union on the southeast side Friday.
Police responded to the robbery at the Finance Federal Center Credit Union at 7915 South Emerson Avenue around 4 pm. A white male with a mask concealing his face entered the facility with a handgun. He pointed the weapon at two employees and demanded they put money in a bag he brought with him. Police say the man escaped with about $5,900 in cash.
Mark Beatley, an off-duty Marion County Sheriff's Department corrections officer was in the drive through at the CVS Pharmacy next door when he saw the suspect run from the credit union with the handgun. He pursued and caught up with the man, who gave up for a moment, dropped is weapon and fled again, only to be confronted a short distance away by IMPD officers.
The suspect was later identified as 44-year-old Frank Wederzak of Indianapolis. He is currently on parole for bank robbery and police say he robbed the same business on the morning of March 3.
The cash was recovered as well as the weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun.
"He robbed a bank like 13 years ago and got shot up and caught," said IMPD Sgt. Paul Thompson. "And then he robbed the same credit union twice here and he's running to the getaway car and gets caught by an off-duty officer because he didn't take his mask off and put his BB gun away before he left the bank."
Police say he was wearing the same clothing, used the same gun and brought the same bag as he used in the previous robbery.
