A visitor to the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City was arrested on a charge of trafficking after she attempted to smuggle a cellular telephone to an inmate, the Indiana Department of Correction said.
Charged with trafficking was Parish Ware. Trafficking is a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years.
According to a statement released on Monday, on Thursday inmate Ben Robinson was searched by staff after being visited by Ware. A package wrapped in gray duct tape and containing a cell phone was found on Robinson’s person, the statement said.
Robinson is serving a sentence of 55 years for felony murder, with a consecutive sentence of 10 years for robbery, from St. Joseph County. Robinson will face an internal charge of trafficking, the statement said.
Ware was transported to LaPorte County Jail by the Indiana State Police.
“This is an example of the great work these correctional professionals do every day,” said Superintendent Mark Levenhagen. “Their challenges are many but they are determined to insure the safety of the facility.”
