Visitor trafficking marijuana arrested at Pendleton prison Simone Davis of Indianapolis found in possession of 115 grams
PENDLETON — A visitor was arrested at Pendleton Correctional Facility on Sunday while attempting to smuggle marijuana into the prison.
Simone Davis, 41, of Indianapolis, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, according to Acting Superintendent Kathy Griffin. Davis was arrested by Indiana State Police Detective Bob May and taken to the Madison County Jail.
Davis is being held on suspicion of trafficking with an offender in a controlled substance, a Class C felony, possession of more than 28 grams of marijuana, a Class D felony. Davis was carrying around 115 grams of marijuana, according to Mike Rains, internal affairs officer at the prison.
“Staff assigned to our visitor’s processing area are to be commended for the excellent security work and thorough search procedures that resulted in the detection and seizure of this contraband,” Griffin said.
The intended recipient of the marijuana was Jelani Shakur, 40, of Kokomo. Shakur was convicted of two counts of dealing in cocaine and arrived in Pendleton on Sept. 9, 2005 to begin serving his sentence. His projected release date was May 26, 2027, but Rains said Shakur could face disciplinary action and possible criminal prosecution in connection with the incident.
“This serves as another example of state agencies working together in a collaborative effort to ensure the safety and security of our facilities,” said Edwin G. Buss, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Correction.
