Teen Hubert Morgan denies charges in death of corrections officer William "Bill" Hesson
CLEVELAND — An 18-year-old accused of killing a juvenile corrections officer with a blow to the abdomen denied charges of aggravated murder and felonious assault today in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court. Hubert Morgan was 17 and an inmate at Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility in Highland Hills when the officer, William "Bill" Hesson died.
Prosecutors said Hesson was in a laundry room when he was struck by Morgan.
Morgan of Vermilion was serving time for a gross sexual imposition case from Erie County. While being sentenced in that case last August, Morgan had an outburst in the courtroom, wrestled with a deputy and threatened several public officials.
The deputy said Morgan was reaching for the deputy's gun. Morgan was charged in those cases and bound over to the adult criminal court in Erie County.
Juvenile Court Judge Thomas F. O'Malley said Morgan will come back to court for a hearing in July. If enough evidence exists that he committed the crime he will be transferred to adult court in Cuyahoga County as well.
